Thoughts become Things
Welcome to Hammers & Nails, a small creative workshop nestled in the heart of Salford. Founded just two years ago by Graham and Tor, our studio is built on passion, creativity, and a deep love for the culture and history that shaped us.
It all began with Graham, who started by designing and hand carving wooden flags — each one crafted to give the appearance of waving in the wind. From that spark, our collection has grown into a range of layered wood art, wall art, and framed prints, each one telling a story.
There are just two of us. Graham handles all the woodwork — cutting, carving, and crafting each piece by hand — while Tor brings everything to life with paint and colour. Between us, we take every piece from concept to design to creation, and a single piece can take many hours to complete. That time and care is something you can see and feel in the finished product.
Growing up in and around Manchester in the 1980s and 90s, we were both shaped by the incredible music and culture that came out of the city during that era. That influence runs through a lot of what we create. Graham is also a lifelong Manchester United fan, which is where his passion for football art was born, and a love of local history and culture threads through a lot of what we do.
We also love getting out and meeting our customers face to face. You can find us at artisan markets across the North West of England, where we enjoy showcasing our work and hearing directly from the people who love it — that feedback means the world to us.
Our mantra — Thoughts become Things — says it all. Every piece we make starts as an idea, drawn from the lives we've lived, the places we love, and the things that move us. We turn those thoughts into something you can hang on your wall and treasure.
